CHICAGO – State Rep. Kam Buckner, D-Chicago, is promoting the Conference of Women Legislators Scholarship to support non-traditional student women during the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
“It’s clear this unprecedented health crisis has caused financial hardship for many and created additional challenges for women seeking to complete their education,” said Buckner. “It is my hope that this scholarship can provide working women with the financial assistance they need to obtain a college degree.”
The application deadline for the Conference of Women Legislators (COWL) Scholarship is this Friday, May 1st. Up to ten scholarships will be awarded to women age 25 and over with plans to attend an accredited school in Illinois for at least six semester hours, either on-campus or online. The one-year undergraduate scholarship will cover tuition, books and fees for up to $2,500 for the 2020-2021 academic year. “As we continue to brace for the financial impact of COVID-19, I recognize there remains a lot of work to be done to dismantle the structural barriers that devalue brilliant women from different walks of live,” Buckner said. “No matter where you are in your journey to success, please know that your dreams are valid.”
