SPRINGFIELD, Ill – State Rep. Kam Buckner, D-Chicago, is joining with state Rep. Curtis Tarver, state Sen. Robert Peters and Cook County Commissioner Bill Lowry to host a Community Baby Shower on Saturday, May 13. It will be held at the Timothy Community Corporation, on 4351 South Drexel in Chicago, from 10 a.m. to noon. The event will feature numerous vendors from around the Chicago area and Illinois, including Aetna Better Health of IL, Family Focus Lawndale and Englewood, and the University of Chicago Medical Center.
“As families in our community continue to shoulder the burden of high costs, connecting parents—especially low-income parents—with the resources they need to keep their children happy and healthy is vital,” Buckner said. “I’m pleased to join with my colleagues, businesses and government agencies to provide a much-needed boost during these trying times.”
“Pregnancy and the postpartum period are special, yet difficult for so many new mothers. All new mothers in our community deserve the information, resources, and support they need to welcome their children into the world while taking care of their own health,” said state Rep. Curtis Tarver II, D-Chicago. “They say it takes a village to raise a child, and as a father myself, I am proud to be a part of that village and uplift new mothers in our community at our Community Baby Shower.”
“It takes a village to raise a child and a generous community willing to support vulnerable families,” said Peters, D-Chicago. “I urge parents to take advantage of this opportunity to gain assistance and receive free resources for their babies.”
Free resources available will including child welfare services, home visits, housing assistance and postpartum support. Giveaways, free for mothers attending, include diapers, wipes hygiene kits, books and baby clothes. Items are dispensed on a first come, first serve basis. Participating vendors are:
